Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

Nestled in the heart of Scotland, Loch Lomond offers an enchanting backdrop for a wild camping adventure & part of the highland way, where the beauty of nature seamlessly blends. This adventure begins as we set up camp by the waters of the loch, surrounded by a lush tapestry of forests and rugged hills. The air filled with the scent of pine and the gentle whispers of the wind through the trees and lots of silence

As dusk descended, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, we embark on a short hike to a nearby bothy—a simple, rustic shelter used by travellers for centuries. It stands solitary against the encroaching darkness, its stone walls echoing stories of those who have sought refuge within its humble confines. The bothy, with its creaky wooden door and flickering log fire, seems to hold secrets of the past, inviting a sense of intrigue and wonder.

We sat around a broken old bench and obviously consumed some beer, The eerie ambiance did not help the stories of the legendary kelpies—the shape-shifting water spirits that are said to inhabit the loch, our head torches casted long shadows that dance across the bothy’s walls. The night deepens, and an otherworldly stillness settles over the landscape, broken only by the occasional hoot of an owl or rustle of leaves.

As i drifted into a peaceful slumber, the bothy transforms into a portal through time, connecting you with the countless adventurers who have walked this path before. Each creak of the floorboards and gentle tap of rain on the roof seems to whisper a reminder of mystery that nature holds.

Come morning, i had discovered a mouse had helped itself to my stash of m&m’s that i had tucked away leaving “faeces” over my t-shirt and in the m&m’s (had i realised this straight away i wouldnt of eaten them). Tired & aching, we packed up and left the bothy behind, carrying with us the unexplainable charm of Loch Lomond and some mouse droppings.
